Summer Associate Program
Each year, Adams, Stepner, Woltermann & Dusing, P.L.L.C., invites first- and second-year law students to participate in its Summer Associate Program. Lasting for approximately 10-12 weeks, the Summer Associate Program gives our Summer Associates comprehensive exposure to the practice of law. The primary goal is to give our Summer Associates a close insight to what it is like to practice law as an Associate at the firm.
Professional Development
The firm gives Summer Associates a significant amount of responsibility as well as the opportunity to perform work in a variety of practice areas. A Summer Associate's workload is not confined solely to legal research and drafting memoranda; rather, our attorneys recognize the value in working closely with a Summer Associate on all phases of representation. While this, of course, includes a variety drafting assignments, it also means that Summer Associates will have a unique opportunity throughout the summer to attend depositions, hearings, trials, closings, and other client-counseling sessions.
Summer Associates are formally reviewed twice each summer. The first review takes place approximately halfway through the Program, at which time a representative sample of the Summer Associate's work product is reviewed by the Recruiting Committee. Each Summer Associate is counseled on ways in which he or she can improve and/or become more successful. The second review, which is largely identical to the first, takes place at the summer's end. The intent is to again counsel each Summer Associate on ways he or she can improve, but it also provides a meaningful opportunity to gauge a Summer Associate's progress over the summer. In addition, a variety of less formal reviews occur throughout the summer, whether it comes from an attorney after a project or during the weekly management and organizational meetings held by members of the Recruiting Committee for our Summer Associates.
Social Activities
The Summer Associate Program incorporates a variety of social activities throughout the summer that give the Summer Associates and attorneys an opportunity to learn more about each other. Indeed, while quality work product is essential, our firm also prides itself on the close personal and professional relationships among the attorneys. To this end, we organize activities that encourage our attorneys and Summer Associates to get to know one another on a personal level.
Firm Resources
Adams, Stepner, Woltermann & Dusing, P.L.L.C., prides itself on its collegial, “small firm” atmosphere all the while providing the types of resources available to larger firms, such as our expansive online research capabilities, document management system, and time-tracking software.
