While in law school Mr. Sweeney  clerked for the law of firm of Deters , Benzinger and LaVelle (now DBL law).  Upon graduating from Salmon P. Chase Northern Kentucky University in 1979, and after a short stint as a solo practitioner, Mr. Sweeney joined the Campbell County firm of Lange, Quill and Powers PSC, where he eventually became an equity partner. In 2002, he left with one of the other firm’s members and formed Sweeney and Fiser PLLC in Crescent Springs, Kentucky. . In April 2018 Mr. Sweeney assumed the practice and renamed the business The Sweeney Law Group. He has had a longstanding friendship and business relationship with ASWD member Jeffrey Mando and after some discussion agreed to join ASWD as “Of Counsel” effective May 1, 2019. Over the years Mr. Sweeney has dealt with most of the firm’s members and has the utmost respect for all of them.  ASWD has some of the best lawyers in the Greater Cincinnati area which is the primary reason Mr. Sweeney wanted to join.

Mr. Sweeney has lived in Northern Kentucky most of his life. He attended St. Anthony Grade School and Holy Cross High School. He obtained an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Northern Kentucky University. He is married to Janie Ratliff Sweeney who is also an attorney and partner with the Ft. Mitchell firm of Hemmer DeFrank Wessels, PLLC.  He has 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Mr. Sweeney was one of the first board members when the Northern Kentucky Bar Association was formed. Before that he served for several years on the board of the  Campbell County Bar Association.  He has served on a variety of committees and associations overtime. He is perhaps most  proud to have served as a member of parish council and as president of the school board at St. Joseph’s Parish in Cold Spring Kentucky while his oldest children Justin and Jill attended school there.

Mr. Sweeney is a trained mediator and has participated as a mediator in numerous mediations. While Mr. Sweeney does not actively advertise his services as a mediator he has been asked to provide mediation services as circumstances warrant.

In his spare time, Mr. Sweeney enjoys reading, golf and spending time with his wife and family.  He loves college basketball and regularly follows the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Xavier University Musketeers. He also enjoys following the Cincinnati Bengals.
